Is this the most undervalued leadership skill? 💡

This week I've started building a new online course:

"The skills of change: How to adapt in a complex world"

As part of this course, I'll be teaching the undervalued but impactful skills that help you thrive in complexity.

One of those skills is Sensemaking.

Sensemaking refers to how we structure the unknown so as to be able to act in it. It involves developing a mental model of a given situation, testing your model with others through insight collection, action, and conversation, then refining or abandoning, your model depending on how credible it is.

Despite its potency, most leaders I speak with have little experience of sensemaking. The Cynefin Framework is helping to change this. However, decision making is still very much valued over sensemaking.

In this article, I share the 8 Habits of Sensemaking

How To Build A Reading Habit 📚

This week I started a YouTube channel. It's been a great learning journey so far!

In my first video, I address a question I'm commonly asked:

It's quite simple in reality. The key is building a reading habit.

In this video I share my method:

  • Why it's important to read the table of contents

  • Why you should align your reading to a personal challenge or goal

  • A highlighting method to capture insights easily

  • How to automate book summary curation

January Retrospective: How easy is consistency for you? 📈

The end of January is a perfect time to reflect on your progress so far this year.

Effective behaviours consistently performed over time is what leads to success.

The challenge: consistency is hard.

You increase the chances of success by making it easy, to do the right thing, consistently.

A few things I've done consistently this month:

- Exercised Every day for 30 minutes (14hrs)

- Spent time writing every day (22hrs)

- Read every day (10 books this month)

A question for you to reflect on as you head through the year.

How can you make consistency easy?
